Principal's Message

Dear Families:

Today marks the official start of the summer holiday! Thank you for your support of Saint Philip the Apostle Catholic School and its teachers/staff. We appreciate the sacrifices that many of you make to send your child(ren) to St. Philip!


As partners in education, you played a role in making 2016-2017 a successful school year! Following are a few of our highlights:


  • Golden Apple (first one for St. Philip!) awarded to First Grade teacher Miss Nicole Hayes;

  • Delivered 1,832 sandwiches to So Others Might Eat (S.O.M.E.) – Thank you Ms. Alfreda;

  • Earned $5,349.88 in Scholastic Dollars through the Fall and Spring Book Fairs – Thank you Mrs. Mosley and volunteers. Many new books will be purchased for the school library;

  • Raised $624.57 for the Daughters of Saint Anne during Fall Mission Days;

  • Raised $501.07 for St. Bonaventure Indian Mission School during Spring Mission Days;

  • Partnered with Cross Catholic Outreach to collect items for Box of Joy Program;

  • Raised more than $18,000 for STEM through fundraising with BoxTops, Holiday Grams, store/company rebates, Silver Diner, Topolino’s, eScrip, and AmazonSmile)

  • Partnered with EduSerc AND greeNEWit for a middle school Young Innovators Green STEM Residency Program ($15,000), out of which the Hydroponic Garden was built;

  • Partnered with Victus to launch study skills program for grades 5 to 8;

  • Installed 18 new toilets, courtesy of our annual grant from the Nonpublic Aging Schools Program;

  • Welcomed visiting children’s author Delisa Woods, who shared her book Showing Kindness All Around the World;

  • Piloted IXL for Math in all grades, as well as sampled IXL Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies for middle school;

  • Participated in Mathletics’ “March Madness”;

  • Earned Champions trophy for CYO Boys Varsity Basketball tournament;

  • Earned Judges Award in First Lego League’s Animal Allies Challenge in Maryland Official Qualifying Tournament;

  • Earned Excellent (2nd Place) in the Archdiocesan Music Program Band Festival for Advanced Band;

  • Participated in National Geography Bee for grades 4 to 8;

  • Raquel B accepted into DeMatha High School Middle School Summer Science Program;

  • Participated in 2017 Advocacy Day in Annapolis with grades 4 and 5, out of which year two of the BOOST program was funded;

  • Raised $32,091.11 (!!!) for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Math-A-Thon and nearly $1,200 for the Trike-A-Thon (PreK3 and PreK4)!


Each of us has committed time and energy toward these successes. Congratulations! We wish you all a very happy, safe, and enjoyable summer. Please be sure to take time as a family to talk, play, and pray together.
